Behind the Veil

of

DX-pedition Planning

Presented by

Gene, K5GS

Gene was first licensed in 1976 as WB5WFD, and issued K5GS in 1996; previous calls were WD6DLK and KE6LT. His DXCC totals are 353/340 (mixed).

Gene’s radio interest has always been DXing with occasional diversions into restoring vintage Collins and Drake equipment, 2m/70cm repeaters and the digital modes.

He was a team member on: 2012 ZL9HR Campbell Island, 2014 VK9MT Mellish Reef and 2015 TX3X Chesterfield Islands, next up is Ducie Island VP6D in Oct, 2018. Being a co-planner and treasurer on three DX-peditions gives him valuable insight on what goes on behind the veil of DX-pedition planning to rare locations.

He also holds call signs VK2IXC and ZL1NA.

Retired after 45 years in the I/T industry Gene and his wife moved to Tucson in Sept, 2016.
